Wearing a face mask is one of the most important things you can do to protect yourself and others from COVID-19. But if you don't have access to a disposable mask, you can easily make your own at home.
Here are the materials you'll need:
- 2 pieces of fabric, each at least 9 inches by 6 inches
- 2 pieces of elastic or ribbon, each at least 12 inches long
- A needle and thread
- Scissors
Once you have your materials, follow these steps:
- Place the two pieces of fabric together, right sides facing in. Pin the edges together, leaving a 1/4-inch seam allowance.
- Sew around the edges of the fabric, using a 1/4-inch seam allowance.
- Turn the fabric right side out. Press the edges of the fabric, folding them under 1/4 inch and pressing again.
- Thread the elastic or ribbon through the casing at the top of the mask. Tie the ends of the elastic or ribbon together to create a loop that will go around your head.
- Repeat steps 1-4 to create a second mask.
Your face masks are now complete! To wear a mask, simply place it over your nose and mouth and adjust the loops to fit snugly around your head.
Here are some additional tips for making and wearing a face mask:
- Use a tightly woven fabric, such as cotton or flannel. This will help to block out droplets.
- Make sure the mask fits snugly around your face, but not too tightly. You should be able to breathe easily while wearing the mask.
- Wash your mask after each use. You can machine wash the mask in hot water and tumble dry on low heat.
- Do not share masks with others.
By following these instructions, you can easily make your own face masks to help protect yourself and others from COVID-19.
