In 2003, Armin Meiwes, a German computer technician, met Bernd Brandes, a Berlin engineer, through a cannibalism website. The two men agreed to meet in Meiwes's home, where Meiwes killed and partially consumed Brandes. The Caged Cannibal is a chilling account of this gruesome murder and the subsequent investigation and trial.

Meiwes had long been fascinated by cannibalism, and he had even posted ads online seeking a willing victim. Brandes, who was struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts, responded to one of Meiwes's ads. The two men exchanged emails and phone calls, and they eventually agreed to meet in person.

On March 9, 2001, Brandes arrived at Meiwes's home in Rotenburg, Germany. The two men spent the evening talking and drinking. Later that night, Meiwes killed Brandes with a kitchen knife. He then dismembered Brandes's body and stored the pieces in his freezer.

Meiwes ate some of Brandes's flesh and stored the rest in his freezer. He also videotaped the killing and dismemberment. The videotape was later found by police and used as evidence against Meiwes.

Meiwes was arrested in December 2002, after he posted an ad on the internet seeking another victim. He was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison in 2006.
